Snow and More Snow

This has been one long winter- with lots of SNOW!

Lexi is in the middle of the "tunnel" to our front door.

The banks down the road are higher than they have

been for years. Some people in our ward have shoveled

their roofs two times with winter. A family in Island Park

measures the snow on their deck after each snow storm then
shovels off the deck. Last week their snow had measured
a total of 16 feet just thru February!! Where is SPRING?

Our Winter Bunny Visitor

This little bunny can often be seen in our yard nibbling on our shrubs...

Last week while Brad was on the computer he turned around to find

the bunny in our window sill. You can barely see the snow that has piled

up from sliding off our metal roof. That is at a 5' level, convenient for the

bunny to access our window sill. He appeared to look at us as we took

his picture but continued to stay there for some time.

Mason's Blessing

Christmas with Dad's Siblings

It has been such a long time since all of dad's sisters and brothers have gotten together. Alice decided to host a dinner at her house and everyone attended. Lots of fun conversation was had and before we knew it we had talked late into the evening. It was great to get together! We also decided to start a Gomer Williams Family Reunion this coming year, August 2011. We use to enjoy the Noah Williams Reunion a number of years ago when our children were young. We have many great memories of those reunions with Friday night campouts at Pole Bridge with 125 people camping. Saturdays were fun activities for the kids and pot luck lunch followed by a genealogy meeting. The reunions always ended with a huge water fight.

To Shoot or Not To Shoot

The only way Brad would shoot is with his camera. And he got a good one! :)

While we were down with Candace, Beau, and the boys, Brad stayed home.

On Thanksgiving Day he had a couple of dinner invitations but elected to stay home alone.

When he saw this Buck walk up the lane by our living room window, he was so exceited.

He ran to get his camera and shot the picture through our front window. It looks like the

deer is digging for crab apples in our front yard. It made his day!!! :)

Baby Mason is Here

Mom and Dad with new baby Mason. (5 days old)
Mason Hugh Peterson was born November 22nd.
Weighed in at 7lb.3oz. and was 20 inches long.

This was the best I could do for a family picture. It is sure hard to

get a 3 and 4 year old to cooperate. They were usually pulling faces!
I will leave the picture taking to Annie and Christie!

Lexi's 4th Birthay

Laura took the day off from work to celebrate Lexi's birthday. She took Lexi and her cousin Kayden to McDonald's, of course, for lunch. Grandma Singleton and Williams also came along.
Lexi is growning up way to fast! That evening we went to Lexi's house for cake and ice cream.
Our present to Lexi was a Cinderella princess dress with a crown. She looked beautiful and very happy!! :) These grandchildren really bring a lot of happiness into our lives....

Spud Break

I think it was October when Laura, Lexi, and I went down to visit Candace and her family.
On Sunday evening we went to this pond outside of Payson to feed the ducks. We may have
gone too late in the day because the ducks weren't as hungry as usual. But they were fun!
The kids had a ball and they were all fun to watch. We drove around the pond and when we stopped and got out with our bread a huge group of ducks headed toward us from the other side of the pond. Alyssa stayed home because she was working in the spuds - making big bucks!
It's tuff being a teenager and having so many "wants". This was Alyssa's first time working in the spuds and we are proud of her for enduring. It is hard work- long days and dirty work.
We missed you on our "get away" Alyssa.

Oregon Trip/ Day 1

Here we are at the Oregon boarder- Ontario visitors center.
They were very helpful and had lots of free brochures to help
us with our travels. They told us not to miss the gorge or the
senic drive - especially Vista House and Crown Point. Thanks
ladies for making our trip so memoribal!!

Lots of mountain pass along the Lewis & Clark Trail.

One of the historic markers said it took them 5 days

just to climb out that one valley. I wouldn't have made

a very good pioneer!

Columbia River Gorge

This was such a beautiful drive with so much to see.
When we started off this morning we ran into rain, but
by the time we got to the gorge it had stopped. Everything
was so green and smelled terrific! Taking this side trip
probably added several hours to our trip but we weren't
pressured by time and I totoally loved it!

Inside the building, we found these muscians. I talked to

the lady on the right. She said the instruments originated

back east in the Appalachian Mountains. They sound a lot like a

steel guitar. I loved their old tunes like "Red River Valley".

Fort Clatsop/Lewis & Clark

This was an interesting and fun stop. It was a beautiful area and unexpected
stop. They had a really nice Vistitor's Center with educational videos
exhibits and gift shop. Outside you walked down well cared for pathways
to explore everything. We walked down to the waters edge at the
Columbia River. The fort got its name from the area Clatsop Indians.
They had a terrific statue of Lewis and Clark inside the visitors center
with Sacagawea, her baby, and Black, the lab. Great history!

Astoria, OR

These are the few pictures we took at Astoria, Oregon. It is a quaint
little town with wooden clap board houses located on a hill. We stopped
acouple of times just to watch the ships and local boats. The pilot boat
came out to the ship below to help him get to the dock. They threw a
rope ladder down for him to climb up. If you can see, he is about half
way up the rope ladder at this point. The large bridge you can see in the
background on these pictures goes overt he Columbia River Gorge into
Washington State. Brad was glad we were not taking him over this bridge.
Uncle Gail had worked in Astoria many years ago on a project and told us to
make sure we went to "The Ship Inn". It was a small resturant right at the
water's edge. It had a small dinning room with full length windows so you
could watch the boats and ships. We were also entertained by the seagulls.
Oh yeah, and the fish dinner was GREAT! We almost walked out after
looking at the menu - we didn't think there was anything Brad would eat.
As we turned to walk out, an older couple was coming in. She looked at us
and said, "your not leaving without eating are you"? They told us not to
leave because their food was the best! Brad decided on a sandwich and dad
and I got fish dinners. Today was Father's Day and we had a great day!

Seaside/ muscle car show

These are only a few of the pictures Brad took of the car show.
As we checked into the condo, they asked if we were there for
the "big car show"? As luck would have it, this weekend was
Seaside's BIG MUSCLE CAR SHOW. How LUCKY for Brad!
He was one happy dude! :) I posted these pictures so you could
see a little of Broadway and the shopping available. Brad found
the Nascar store and went wild! He came away with a Seaside
hoodie, 2 Dale Ernhart t-shirts and a Ernhard hat.

Seaside, OR condo

As we took our trip from Idaho through Oregon we followed the
infamous Lewis and Clark Trail. Below is their statue showing the
end of their journey at the Pacific Ocean in Seaside, OR. at the end
of Broadway. (just outside our condo) Our balcony looked out on
Broadway and the Shilo Inn across the street.

This our condo in the background (right) and Shilo Inn on the left.
You can barely see the lifeguard stand and two emergency vehicles.
They had beach volleyball available and a swing set for the children.
They even had showers for people to wash the sand off as they exited
the beach.

I made dad turn around for a picture - he was searching

after every wave went back out for shells. Both hands are

full of his "treasures". Brad was smart enough to take his

shoes off - dad and I ended up with wet, sand filled shoes.

It was a beautiful evening out there!

We went out to the ocean late the evening we got there and took

these pictures. We have our coats on because we were cold!!

It is usually windy at the beach and with the sun not shining it was

cold. Believe it or not there were people out there in swimsuits!

This is "Haystack Rock" at Cannon Beach - the most photograped

spot on the Oregon coast. It is beautiful and unusual. I'm sure my

snapshot is NOT the best location for the shot. But alteast I got

the shot!

Gleneden, OR Condo

Watch out, here's Grandma on the surfboard!! I had to do
it because Brad wouldn't! It was a little to embarrassing for him.

This was a cute pull out driving out of Linclon City. I saw these

rocks and one has a tree growing out of it. Between the first

two rocks on the right is Mo's Restaurant! Great place to eat and

it seems to be always busy. They are a fish and chowder place.

There are several located up and down the Oregon coast.

One day dad wasn't feeling like going out so I dragged Brad

out with me. We went to the oldest glass blowing business

in Lincoln City, called the Alder House. It ended up being

very close to our condo, on a country road hidden by dense

foliage. I again didn't take my camera in :( sorry. It was

fasinating to watch him blow glass. We were there for around

30 minutes with just two other couples watching his demonstration.

He had a number of items in his shop people could buy. I just bought

a small egg shaped paper weight, most of his art was out of my price

range. We also drove a ways and found this covered bridge (above)

Oregon is well known for its many wooden covered bridges.

We took this picture of Brad from our balcony. I like this picture

with the waves and birds in the background. As you can see we

were close to the beach.

This is the back side of the condo, of course. If you look closely you

can see me and dad on the balcony! We had a front building view of

the ocean. :) Brad an Dad enjoyed going out in the water looking for

"dead things". Dad did bring home a few sand dollar pieces and other

precious things but we had to buy a star fish and another whole shell

just for the memory. :)

Oregon Coast Aquarium/Newport

I forgot to take my camera in so these are a few of Brad's pictures.
We were fortunate to be there for the feeding of the Sea Lions and
another time to see the otter's being feed. The workers feed the animals
3 times a day and while feeding the otters they told us they eat so many
times their weight- (which I forgot :( What I do remember is they said
it would be like us eating 100 quarter pounders or big mac's a day.
A you can imagine Brad really enjoyed this visit. They had a couple of
glass tunnel walk ways with benches you could sit and watch the fish swim
around you. One of the tunnels was all sharks - a little scary! There are so
many pictures of the under side of fish here, sorry. But maybe you get the
idea. I never saw a live halibut before - they are much bigger than I imagined.

Tillamook Cheese Company/Air Museum

Sorry these first two pictures are from postcards we bought.
I forgot to take my camera inside. The building was much
bigger than it appears. The viewing area upstairs was huge.
On the main level they had their store, resturant, gift shop,
and several ice cream lines. I think they make something like
30 flavors of ice cream. Of course we got our ole usual flavors
huckleberry and cookies and cream.

You can be sure this was one of Brad's favorite stops!! We visited

about an hour, of course Brad got lots of pictures. He made a haul

at their store - 4 new t-shirts and a hat. :) This hanger was used

during WW II to store a blimp.

Cape Fowlweather

This was a really fun stop. Oregon is so filled with dense foliage
and trees it is sometimes very hard to see the road signs for
attractions. Glad we darted in here! :)

This tells the history of Cape Fowlweather.......

This is looking south from the viewpoint. The grey condo's are

WorldMark at Depoe Bay. Brad had the binoculars out and found

three large groups of sea lions and otters as he followed those small

rocks in the water up to the large rocky shore. It was a beautiful spot!

Sea Lion Caves

The only way to see this group of sea lions was to pay admission to
the caves. This group wasn't in the cave, as you can see, they were
directly behind the building at the water's rocky edge

This was the beautiful turn out 1/4 mile before the Sea Lion Caves.
Your looking across at an historic lighthouse. The waters below
and the rocky water' edge were filled with sea lions. I said "who
needs to go to the cave now that we have seen all of these" but I am
glad Brad and I did. It was a cool experience.

This, of course, is the main entrance to the Caves. Brad and I went down

in an elevator 200 feet into the cave. It was an amazing place just filled

Sea Lions.

There were a number of pull outs on the highway to look for whales.

We were not lucky enough to see any.

The Redwoods

Most of the historic redwoods are in the "Land of the Giants"
off historic highway 101. Of course this is the well known
"drive-thru" tree. I miscalculated this days travel time. It took
much longer to get to the redwoods and our condo was more like
five hours south instead of two hours. oops! :( We didn't get to
our condo in Clear Lake until 11:00 pm.... Oh well, the drive was
beautiful and getting there from Lincoln City was filled with
one stop after another. Too many places to see and experience!

This picture is just to give you an idea of how large these trees

really are. This one was right next to the road. There were

areas to pull off and walk a shot distance to really big trees

The road going thru "Land of the Giants" was really good but narrow.

The trees came right to the roadway. They are so tall even with daylight

in among the tall trees it is still like night time. It was hard to get a

good picture, Sorry!

Clear Lake - California

Clear Lake is Wine Country. There a several Wine Tasting rooms.
This one is just outside Clear Lake city limits called Tulip Hill.

I'm afraid the background was too sunny to see the lake. You can
barely see the pier-they had a bench at the end of it and lots of
people were fishing from the pier too. You could even rent any kind of
boat at the pier. It was a beautiful spot.

At Clear Lake, our condo was on the bottom floor and our patio faced the lake.

We had a great view of the power boats, water skiers, and jet skis.

That would a condo be without animals to feed? Brad really enjoyed feeding

the ducks. He tried to get them to get it from his hand but this was about

as close as they would get.

Memorial Day Weekend 2010

Candace, Beau and the boys came home for Memorial Day weekend! Of course, it was the typical Idaho Memorial Day weekend with cold, windy, wet weather!! They arrived in Rexburg to a rainy downpour, dropped the boys off with grandma and hurried to the Rexburg Temple. This was their first time going through a session there. Candace was surprised to see several people she knew from Chester working there - even Aunt Deanna. They had a great session! : )

Saturday evening we fed the missionaries. Beau and Brad went to the theater to see Robin Hood and Candace, grandma and the boys went shopping in Rexburg. Sunday was church and a family dinner in Chester - Bryce, Shauna and their family came up too. Sunday evening we got into a fun game of pictionary. Candace had grandma as her handicap partner - hey, they even won some rounds!! Whoever get grandma is always the "handicap" team.

Here is our group picture at Warm River! The bread is gone and the little one's are getting a little fussy... time to head back home. It was fun while it lasted! : )

Here we are at Warm River to feed the fish! Grandma had saved some stale buns just for this occassion. The kids had fun until the bread ran out! : ( This is a special spot in the river, just to feed the fish - and there are some big one's here. Of course, there is no fishing allowed in this area. Many people return to this spot on a yearly basis - and have been doing so for 30-40-50 years!! There is another area up into Mack's Inn area called Big Springs that has a similar area to feed big fish. That is where several years ago we took Candace and Beau and intruded on a family of Moose feeding on th bottom of the water bed.

Sunday Morning SNOW in Utah Easter Morning

This what we woke up to on Sunday morning! It looks like Idaho...
We had hoped to go to Candace and Beau's to enjoy Spring but we
got more of the same ole thing! That's okay, it just means another
trip will be planned.....

Candace had made marshmallow eggs and said they just don't turn out
like mine. She was using the wrong receipe!! :( I made another batch
and of course they turned out great. They had fun dipping and decorating.
I enjoyed eating!!! Hahaha

Here is Alyssa sewing her new bag. Candace posted the bag she had made
and now we all want one!!! They are so cute! Thanks to Lynette Peterson,
Beau's mom.... She is trying her best to make Candace a "crafty person".

Build A Bear

Easter Egg Hunt!

Bear World baby cubs

Last week Bear World was talking about all the new baby bear cubs. They also advertised you could bring your families out and have your picture taken with a cub. I mentioned it to Brad Friday after work and he was really interested so he and I hurried out before it closed. Dad was back from Swan Valley and working the Census before we had to leave or miss out. These are the pictures taken with my camera. The cub was getting figitty on this second picture and whining and Brad looks a little nervous! They were sooo cute!! These cubs are two months old. Their claws are already very big and sharp. The workers said they have already filed down their claws so no one could get hurt. By the time Brad and I got there is must have quieted some- we were in and out in 30 minutes. It was a nice visit and fun to see the new cubs.

Bryce's Surprise 40th Birthday Party

Sorry no pictures! Bryce's birthday was last tuesday but on Monday Shauna called asking if we could make a surprise party for Bryce that evening. Since our socail calendar is so full we were able to accept instantly! I texted Laura but she didn't check her phone until after Zumba class- but it was a GO for them too. We beat Bryce come from work! And he was pleasantly surprised for HIS party. We all had a great time! Shauna made Chicken Alfredo, she is always a great cook, I brought a salad, and Bryce had a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. After supper we played a couple of games- soon it was 8:00 and time to head home. That 5:30 am alarm comes way too quickly for me. PS: when you go to Bryce's for family games watch out for the water games!! Olivia got Grandpa good!!

Hurray-my cabinets are complete!

With the cabinet and microwave installed and the baseboards on, my new kitchen

cabinets are complete. We have a lot to learn on operating our new stove! Last

Saturday we attempted to bake a pie in the smaller oven. Two times we thought

we had set the timer after reaching the temperature but apparently had turned the

oven OFF! Even reading the operators manual is difficult for me!! Oh well, we will

learn by trial and ERROR.

New Kitchen

It two weeks to get our drawer handles in - sure made it difficult to get into things. We really didn't use them until we had handles. For two weeks we were living out of boxes. This weekend we were cleaning out the sawdust and trying to find a "new home" for appliances and pots and pans. Still don't have everything rearranged yet.

I really like my new formica and cabinets. I have all slide out shelves and a flour and sugar drawer. The one cabinet door not on by the stove is our trash bin door. We are still waiting for that hardware to finish up.

There are still have two things that are needed to finish up- well three. The new cabinet above the stove needs installed, the kickplate at the bottom of the cabinets, and a new sink. I bought a new kitchen faucet set hoping we could get away with just that but no luck. My old sink is shallow (6") and where the old faucet was the stainless steel is black apparently from standing water over a number of years. Jordan Hurt is a plumber and been very helpful with upgrading our old plumbing at the kitchen sink.

It has taken me a while to get these pictures posted, sorry. The kids were all home for Christmas and had one last look at our mismatched kitchen cabinets. The "tearout" started the Monday following Christmas. What a mess it has been but well worth it!

It took dad and Skip Hurt half a day to tear out the old cabinets. I must say they were built very well and put in to last a lifetime! Here the base cabinets were put in and leveled.

Grandma is a Clutz!!

Thursday morning at work I walking down our suite of offices and the carpet grabbed the toe of my shoe and sent me flying... I tried to break my fall landing on my left elbow and left knee. Fortunatelly none of the guys were in their offices. That saved some embarassment! whew :) I got up, gathered myself together and waited a couple of hours before I told my supervisor. I filed a worker's comp form just to be safe. It immediately felt numb and was quickly swelling.

The next day I made an appointment with the Student Health Center. They took 2 x-rays to be sure it was just a bad sprain and bruise. The Dr. said it would probably be sore for a couple of weeks. I go back again thursday for a follow up. He fitted me with a brace and it has helped. Throughout the weekend the black and blue has moved totally around my knee and leg. It is still numb, but I guess when the swelling is totally gone it will feel normal again. I am a total clutz!! I will be happy to get a good nights sleep again.

Sorry the picture turned out blurry. This wasn't even at it's height of beauty.

Mother/Daughter Vacation

This is our third mother/daughter get together in four years. Many thanks to Alyssa, Allen, Brandon and Beau for taking over household chores and child care!! :) We enjoyed eating out without little ones present.

Candace, Gavin and Landon picked Tammy up at the airport on Saturday, Aug.8th. She was so looking forward to seeing the boys especially since she had not seen Landon yet. She had a great time playing with the boys.

Sunday Laura and I arrived in the late afternoon. It was great to see Tammy. Latter Angie LeCheminant came over to visit with us, well Tammy really. We had a great visit. Angie and Tammy's stories kept us in stitches!! Poor Beau several times came into the room but turned around and left saying there was too much estrogen for him to be present!! haha! Angie and Becki Charlton are Tammy's best friends from childhood and high school.

Monday we left for St. George and our much needed "getaway". We stopped in Cedar City at a park downtown for a little picnic. We arrived too early at St. G. for check-in at the condo so we went SHOPPING at the outlet stores. They had some good bargins. After we got settled into the condo we went out to Olive Garden for dinner. Great food and great company!! Tuesday morning we made appointment with Evans Beauty School for the afternoon to have manicures and pedicures. That was fun! SANTA even came in to have his beard trimmed!! No Joke!! He was very particular how it was trimmed. He came in streeet clothes but had a picture in his wallet of him in Santa Suit. He was a little shorter than I remembered! Tuesday evening we went to Tuachan Ampitheather to see Footloose - Great Show! We got back to the condo around midnight. Wednesday we went to the mall and hit several stores. It was around 2:30 before we broke for lunch at In and Out. That evening we had a movie fest at the condo and picked up Pizza and bread sticks. That's what the girls wanted to watch a movie without children interrupting. We had a great time and another LATE night!

Thursday morning we left by 9 am and headed for Candaces'. I think she was ready to return to her home, Beau and the boys. When we got there, Beau looked like he needed some sleep. Poor guy had really been busy trying to work, watch 2 little boys and get their townhouse rented.
Laura, Tammy and I headed for Idaho and the final leg to our journey. Laura's kids were anxious to see her. Bryce, Shauna and their kids were all up to see Tammy. We all had a good visit. Tammy was so surprised how tall and grown up all the kids had gotten. Friday Tammy and I went to the BYU-I bookstore and I showed her around campus for awhile. Then she got a call from KC, Brandon's brother the hair stylist. He was ready to highlight Tammy's hair. We were there several hours. She had a good visit with KC - Stephanie came over to visit just as KC finished doing Tammy's hair. Wish I would have had my camera for all of this but forgot.
Friday evening was the Chester steak fry at the pavilion. Tammy got to see most of her Aunts and Uncles there and many old ward members.

Saturday Tammy got packed up for her return flight home and our trip back to Salt Lake. Laura, Alyssa, Lexi and I took Tammy back to SL. We stayed at the Hilton/Airport. We had a nice stay and Candace and her family came up to go swimming and visit one more time with Tammy. We all left saying we want to plan another one next year and find a new location. Let's work on that.!! LOVE YOU Girls! :) Thanks for a GREAT TIME!!

Here we are at the entrance to Tuachan Ampitheater! This was Laura and Tammy's first visit to Tuachan. We saw Footloose- great show and music!! :) The lead actor "Ren" was played by a Utah boy that was on "So you Think you can Dance". He did very well!! LOVE the outdoor
Theater!!

This had to be intermission! :) It was getting late and we were tired and silly!!

The girls were making silly faces and intertaining everyone.

Here we are at Evans Beauty School in St. George. We made an appointment for all of us the get manicures and pedicures. It was a very relaxing afternoon with some pampering!!

Ducks at the Hilton Airport

After we settled into our hotel room we looked out the sliding glass window and saw the large pond- then we saw the ducks! When we walked out to the pond they immediately started their migration over to us at the shore. It looked like a tidal wave of ducks coming. Lexi got such a kick out of feeding them especially the baby ducks. Beau decided he was going to catch one of the babies but as soon as he grabed the legs and it started screaming the mother was honking and ready to attack him. Needless to say he quickly released the duckling!!

After we fed the ducks at the pond, they followed us right to our rooms sliding glass window!

We were anxious for Gavin and Landon to arrive and help feed the ducks.

These goats were so cute. This baby loved to ride it's mothers back! The baby was fun to watch as it jumped around on rocks that lined a small stream of water. They are so agile.

They had 2 baby deer. Aren't they cute! They asked us to stay 8' away so we didn't upset the mother.

I just love to take the grandkids to Bear World and the Petting Zoo! The kids reactions to walking in with the animals is so fun and they get so exceited!!

Graceland- Elvis's Home

This picture was taken at the end of the tour. We were there for quite a while. I was much like all the girls in my day growing up - rushing to every movie of Elvis's that came out!!! I am happy to be able to say that I have toured Graceland! Thanks to a lady in Tammy's ward we were able to get several free tickets. She has worked at Graceland for over 20 yrs. She has been through many of his trunks and storage items. One day she came across a Book of Mormon. Elvis had read it and underlined many passages and wrote notes in the margins. She was impressed and it lead her to investigate the church. She says Elvis was her missionary!!

The tours originate across the street and visitors are bused to the mansion for the tour.

As you entered his home you came into a foyer off to the right was this room. I can remember seeing this picture in many a magazine in Elvis's day.

I look wierd in this picture because I have my head set on. The tour is done with the headset and your own pace. I actually learned a lot about Elvis that I didn't know before. One interesting note was a benefit concert he did to raise money for the Pearl Harbor Memorial. All the proceeds from the concert went to fund the memorial. Elvis did so many things for Charity!!

This is the Memorial Garden where Elvis and his parents and grandparents are buried. It is a very nice area. People speaking all kinds of languages are heard reverently speaking and paying respects to Elvis.

Shelby's Baptism

It was really fun to have both sets of grandparents there for Shelby's baptism. We all stayed at Brandon and Tammy's new home. It was one big sleep over!! :)

This is a picture of our nephew and part of his family. Dean and Annie Baker and daughters, Brooke and Emma. It was such a nice surprise for Tammy when they relocated from Bells, TN to Southaven, Mississippi. There is only one Ward there so Tammy gets to see them often.

Brooke and Emma often babysit for Tammy and Brandon. It has been nice for Tammy to have some family close by.

Mud Island

We took this trip six weeks ago - I am just SLOW in posting it!! Mud Island was very educational. I enjoyed visiting this island.

On Mud Island they had a map that followed the Mississippi River from it's beginning to end.

Shelby and Noah waded the river through all the states.

We drove across the bridge and parked on the Island. It was a fun visit!

This is the Pink Palace Mansion! This was built by the founder of the "Piggly Wiggley" grocery
store chain. This is a beautiful place. He did a lot for the city of Memphis.

We took this picture in front of the Pink Place Mansion. It was alittle overcast but very muggy.
We all had a hard time keeping our eyes open for pictures. This was a really nice picture of
Tammy and her family!

Dad's Poor Ear

This picture is way past due! For at least a year dad had been having a scab on his ear that would break open and bleed on his pillow at night as he slept. In January he visited our family doctor and he referred him to a specialist in IF. He was very good. Dad had a beta cell cancer that was very common and fairly easy to treat. The ear tissue regenerates nicely. It involved most of one day as the Dr. would peal off one layer of tissue at a time until he felt he had all of the cancer. It was then tested right there in their lab. Dad had go have tissue removed 3 times before the doctor decided he got all of the cancer. It did heal quickly -dad is all better!

Dad just about has my upper cabinets done. He still needs to put the end panels on and put some molding trim around. We did find some cute knobs to put on the doors. They weren't on yet when dad took these pictures. Sorry about the mess on the counter tops. Dad didn't bother to cleanup before he started his project. Brad came into my office that day and told me Dad had started working on my cabinets. He said dad set the saw up on the counter and was blowing sawdust all over the place. Saturday it took me a couple of hours to clean up what was left of the mess. I guess that's a small price to pay for new cabinets. :) With everything I want changed in my base cabinets we will need to totally redesign and tear out the bottom cabinets. I DON'T LOOK FORWARD TO THE MESS!! Dad always gets that funny look on his face when I say,

"do you think we could". I'm sure he is thinking "not another request"! The cabinets are made out of knotty alder and have winchester stain on them.

Lexi's Birthday

Busy Weekend

Last week was a busy one. Thursday evening I taught a First Aid class at the University, so I was late getting home. Friday evening our ward had a chapel meeting before our temple session.

We didn't get out of the temple until around 9:30 pm. We stopped for ice cream at Dairy Queen with 2 other couples and got home around 11 pm. Another late night. Saturday morning was Trey's baptism at 11 am in Rexburg. Bryce and Shauna have had conflicts the past two months when the stake baptism day rolled around so Trey's baptism is a little slow is coming. He turned 8 yrs. on September 17th. All went well! After the baptism they had a family lunch at their house. It was nice to see everyone. Bryce and Shauna only have one more to be baptised and Abby is in kindergarten this year.

Dad's new pickup

Yes, Dad finally got his pickup. He has needed one for atleast a year. His vehicle has not been

very dependable. This is a 2000 Chevy S10, automatic, 4 cyl, 2wheel drive, ext. cab with only

54,000 miles. Dad just wanted a bare bones truck, and it is a nice one. It should last us a long

time.

Visiting Candace and Beau

I went with Laura, Allen and their family to Utah the middle of October. Allen and Mitch and Beau and Candace had tickets to the BYU vs. UNLV football game. This was Allen and Mitch's first opportunity to attend a major college sporting event. They said it was "awesome"! They are thinking we should get season tickets next year. Laura, Alyssa and I got to play with the kids. We were met in the front yard with a St. Bernard. He was huge but loving. Landon's high pitched squeals sent him running back to his yard. The kids had fun swinging and sliding in the back yard. It was a very nice day to be outside. Candace had just finished painting the boy's room. It really turned out so cute.

Labor Day Weekend

Here is Dave and I at Upper Mesa Falls. We are getting our picture taken during a "downpour". There were actually ice crystals in that rain for a minute!! The temperature up there was 38 degrees! Utah and Idaho each had a big cold front come thru for the holiday weekend. It is supposed to improve after today.

This is a cabin that was restored and moved to Mesa Falls several years ago. It houses forest service workers with maps and information on the area. You can see all the rain on the path! The storm was pretty much over at this point.

New Paint

I should have taken these pictures earlier, before the sun was so bright. I hope you can see the color of the wall. I do really like it and it goes so well with our decor. Candace was a GREAT help!! She did the hard part- dad and I assisted somewhat. We painted one wall in the dining room this same color so I have to change the decor on it. Yesterday dad and I went shopping after my doctor appointment ( my surgery is a go for tuesday 9/2) and found some decortations at Bed Bath & Beyond. We will get them up tonight and I will take pictures and post them for you. Candace also did some vinyl lettering for me- I have had it around for atleast a year. I will put them on my next blog. We still have more painting to do!! I have some brick red to put on a couple of walls in the computer room. I will be moving my americana decor to this room. I am exceited to get it done!! We also have some white paint to brighten up a couple of walls. I have ordered a new bedspread and matching valances for our bedroom. It's NOT flowery!! Something really different for me but I am really exceited for it. The bedspread is backordered but should arrive by the middle of Sept. This will also require a new color on our bedroom walls.

I snapped this picture of Landon walking around the living room as he waited for mommy to finish packing up the Yukon for the trip back home to reunite the family! Isn't he just so PROUD of himself!! Gavin's 2nd Birthday

We had the Singleton's over for cake and ice cream to help us celebrate! Candace and the boys left yesterday after a two week visit, waiting for the paperwork on their new home to go thru. She said on their blog that they are "homeless" but mom and dad's door is always open! We LOVE you and your family tons and love having you visit!! VISIT is the operative word. Idaho Falls Zoo

We arrived at the zoo around 4 pm as several families were leaving. I didn't think much of it, but apparently the zoo closes its gate at 5pm or 6pm. As we were walking around we kept seeing fewer and fewer people but we jsut kept doing our thing. The kids enjoyed seeing the animals! It was a hot day so the kids got a little testy and cranky before we were finished. After the zoo we took the kids to Pizza Hut. OUR group was like a zoo!! The kids were wound up, loud, and ready to eat the moment we walked thru the door. Our poor waiter really had his hands full.... Laura asked Alyssa, "Now do you know why dad and I like to go out to dinner alone?" She acted like she didn't have a clue. She is blonde, I guess that explains it!!! Sorry Alyssa :) Love Ya! July 24th Holiday

Here are some pictures of the BIG parade in St. Anthony and the kids waiting for their share of the candy. It was a fun parade with the Americana's from Burton and several very nice floats. As usual, when the chocolate milk comes around, I'm always happy. : ) After the parade we went home for a BBQ and some shade!! It was a little breezy but we actually appreciated it!! We had several hotly contested Lawn Golf matches. Laura got the hang of it and in the last match was very impressive. True to form, Bryce always comes thru and wins in the end. Dad cooked both nights of the rodeo, but the rest of us enjoyed the rodeo and fireworks. Tammy called just before we left for the rodeo. She got to talk with Bryce, Laura and Candace - her call topped off our day!! : ) We missed you and your family Tammy..... : ( I'm having trouble making my slide show- will add pictures later.

Newly Licensed Motorcycle Driver

New 12,000 Seat Auditorium

Construction has been moving swiftly this summer on the new auditorium. They really got behind last winter. The contractors have to have the cement panel walls up, roof on and totally enclosed by October 1st or face a huge penalty. The cement panel area will be the new auditorium and the white pillar area will be the 6 new basketball courts. They hope to have the bookstore in their new area for fall semester. It will give them 3 times the area they have now. The MC is really busy with construction. The kitchen has moved downstairs so construction can begin on the new food court. Everything is starting to take shape. It's an exceiting time for

Our Chester Community 4th of July Breakfast and flag raising was held at 8 am sharp! Brad and I were a little late! :( There was a great turn out. The cooks get better and better each year. Next year they may try to have 4 serving lines instead of 2. The food was ready but people were a little slow getting through to the food. The YW always have a baked food Auction to cover expenses for girls camp and a summer activity. The community looks forward to it each year and they usually make enough money to cover their expenses for summer. This year the YM and leaders spent a day in SLC touring church sites. They had a very special experience at the Humanitarian Center.
We attended the parade in beautiful downtown Ashton! Lots of horses, vintage cars, military vehicles, fire engines, 1 stake float, and lots of people throwing candy to the children!!! After the parade we had a BBQ with Laura and Allen and family at our house.

Last weekend, July 11th, Uncle Mark and Aunt Beth celebrated their 50th anniversary. They combined it with their family reunion. Lance and Darris were the only ones not able to come this year. Lance's oldest son is being married next month in the Bountiful Temple and they could only afford one trip for the summer. Darris' wife, Jolene, has breast cancer. : ( She has already started chemo and radiation treatment. Last week she started loosing her hair. Keep their family in your prayers!! Their youngest is 7 years and oldest may be 14 years.

At the anniversary party they had a wheelbarrow and a sign that said, "Ask about the wheelbarrow". On their wedding day Uncle Mark pushed Aunt Beth down Rigby's Main Street in a wheelbarrow. She put a rope around Uncle Mark's neck and lead him down Main Street.

What a fun wedding day memory!!!

Bear World

These pictures were taken around the middle of May. One Saturday we just decided to take Laura and her kids with us to Bear World. It was a beautiful day and we had lots of fun seeing the bears and other animals. After we did the drive thru we walked thru the petting zoo. Lexi was so exceited to see all the animals walking around and getting to touch them. They also had several rides that were for toddlers and young children. We got a picture of Laura and Lexi riding a small train. We saw several families from Chester there and discovered Megan Davis working there for the summer. She said it was a blast to work there! We hope to visit again this summer to see how the bear cubs are growing.

Cove Fort

We stopped here a couple of years ago on our way down to St. George and we found its history really interesting. We stopped again so Laura and her family could have the same experience. REALLY, at this point, on the drive you really need a break and an opportunity to stretch your legs. Poor Lexi had already wet through her clothes and walked around the fort in her diaper.

President Gordon B Hinckley's father Bryant was asked to build the fort to provide a rest stop for pioneers as they traveled. It was a half way point between Fillmore and Cedar City. One interesting fact about the fort is that it never was attacked by indians! The missionary couples now show a short video about the history and building of Cove Fort that wasn't available before.

I really enjoy visiting church historical sites.

Tired of Vacation

Watch for some long faces on Alyssa and Mitch. They said one park looked like every other one!

Friday they were so ready to head for Salt Lake, but we went the long way thru Zion National Park Hwy 9 and up Hwy 89 scenic byway to Bryce Canyon. They were more eager to play with Gavin and Landon at the Crystal Inn in Salt Lake. Of course we had to stop for dinner at The Cracker Barrell too. We didn't get to the hotel until 9:00 pm and we were all TIRED!

We got to visit with Candace, Beau and the boys for a little bit but I think by 10 pm we were all in bed! Gavin and Lexi picked up right where they felt off from the previous visit chasing each other playing tag... They are so cute together!! We got a couple pictures of them playing on the bed with grandpa!

Long Time No See

This is my brother, David Brown. It had been 7 years since I saw him last. Candace and I had flown out to New York to visit him and my sister and thier familes for about 10 days. Dave is working in Salt Lake City for 2-3 months so it gives us a chance to visit. I have seen him 3 times in the last 30 days- that has to be a record!! He has a married son Marcus, his wife Amanda and a granddaughter Jazmine living in Alabama. Dave's wife Cathy and daughter Rachel also live in Alabama. Dave does get to go home for brief periods of time and then it's off to another job. He works on power plant start ups. It's all over my head - I can't explain it!! Dave also has another son, Jayme and he is married to Kim. They are both active in church and both served missions. Jayme has recently passed his bar exam and is working for Homeland Security in Texas.

Dave met us Sunday evening at Days Inn so he could meet atleast part of our family. He had only seen the kids when they were very young. (Bryce and Laura only) He had met Candace 7 years before. I think he enjoyed being around family and we enjoyed having him there!! They remarked how they had never met anyone from my side of the family, that they could remember anyway.

Fun in the Pool

We had a fun vacation to St. George and the condo. It is such a long drive that we broke it up by leaving after church on Sunday the 15th and stopping in Lehi, Ut. for the night. Candace, Beau and the boys met us there for some "pool time". Everyone enjoyed cooling off and getting some "splash time" in. Gavin, Landon and Lexi are sooo cute! Candace brought a cake for Fathers Day - we all enjoyed it too! :)

Health Report

Our Doctor appointments are over for awhile. Dad's nerve test showed some border line damage. The foot doctor has been working with a study on diabetic feet. They have found that vitamin B1 can actually reverse nerve damage not just slow it down. Dad had his feet recast for new shoe inserts, they should arrive in acouple more weeks. We also found out their is a "diabetic shoe" available thru our foot doctor. Our insurance fully pays for 2 pair each year for both of us! They are called "Dr. Comfort". They even have some nice styles that we like! I saw the eye doctor so I could order perscription sunglasses and they should be here before we leave on our vacation. I sooo need my sunglasses!! My GYN is scheduling me for some minor surgery after July 4th weekend. It's just a 10 minutes procedure - but I will be doing much better when it's done.

Memorial Day Weekend

What a WET weekend we have had! May 25th was Gordon's Birthday, we had Bryce and Laura's families come up for a BBQ. It's always fun to see the cousins get together and enjoy one another! :)
The afternoon was actually quite nice. We were able to be outside most of the afternoon. Bryce had Savannah practicing her fast pitch, while others played some soccer or jumped on the tramp.
Laura was reading the Birthday story book to Lexi but by the time I got back with the camera, of course, she had already moved on to something more exceiting! I missed a cute picture. :(

Monday we went to the Chester and Wilford cemeteries. Again we had to dodge rain drops!

Hey Shelby these pictures are for you!! Precious loves to sit on Grandpa's lap.

She is always looking for some TLC. Gavin gave Precious lots of room while he was visiting but kept getting a little closer every day. While he was telling everyone goodbye and giving kisses the cat was the most important one!! Precious is not a kids cat! When little ones get too close she usually gives them a hiss and a good "back hand" with her paw!! :(

Hot Biker Dude

Dad said he should "dress" the part of a biker- so he got his head scarf and sunglasses!!

He is anxious to get out riding when we get some decent weather! Our nicest days are always Sundays!! Wouldn't you know!! Doesn't he look like a likely canidate for the Bishop of our ward?

Gavin is not sure what Grandpa's plans are here!

We loved having Gavin at our house for several days. We just don't see him enough!

He is growing up sooo fast. He is such a cutie!!! :)

Foot Problems

Dad had an appointment today with the foot doctor in Idaho Falls- Dr. Tolman. The ultra sound showed very clearly a very inflamed heel. He got a shot and he taped up his left foot. He goes back next Tuesday for an internal more indepth ultra sound and to have both feet recast. He's had his current shoe inserts for 15-20 years. Dr. Tolman said they are wearing out and he needs new ones. He goes back on June 3 for nerve tests on his feet. It will be good to know to what extent he has nerve damage. The weather was nice this morning, but the wind has come up and it is very overcast. Looks like rain will be here very soon! We are feeding the missionaries tonight. Thought we would BBQ burgers- may have to do it in the garage! Last night went to Company B's music program. The girls did a great job in their singing program. Shauna and Darby have invested a lot of time teaching these kids. Savannah, Olivia, Charlotte, and Abbigail were all in the program!! Dad's birthday is Sunday, I hope the weather will be a little better so we can cook outside. EVERYONE-have a GREAT HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!!
